Elle Decor - March 2012

Well, if you doubted that I really, really like classic literature, here is a clip of me expressing just what I love about these Penguin Classics.

While they are ordinarily not very expensive - a remarkable $20 each, a set of 3 are being sold for just $42 on OpenSky right now for a limited time.

Or come to our store for a selection of over 20 volumes, all of them classics with equally beautiful artwork. Michele Varian, 27 Howard St, NYC, NY in Soho. t. 212-226-1076.

Just In: Great for Giving - Penguin Classics Books re-issued with amazingly designed hard bound covers. Of course, my favorites include Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Little Women and Dracula to keep it interesting. I love classic literature and these beautiful new releases are inspiration to buy the entire collection for myself - even though I already own all of them. Best yet - They don’t even cost much more than a paperback. They are only $20 each! We have 20 titles, not all of which are on our website, but just give us a call if you would like to go hog wild and get the whole collection.
Available on our website www.michelevarian.com and at our store:

We’ve been talking about “trikes” (tricycles) a lot at the store lately. I still think the ones that my sisters and I had as kids were the best ever made. They had red fenders with golden sparkly flames on them and red and white vinyl tassels on the handle bars. The seats were that crazy sparkly red vinyl and most importantly they had a generous back step with treads, for another passenger, to be ridden like a scooter or to be pushed by someone else (hi-jacked).
This, however, is pretty great too.

Just Pretty: This Vintage School Chair was left on a moving van, perhaps because it weighs a ton. Believe it or not, the owner of the van was happy to unload it to me. Score! These are my sassy version of cowboy boots. The books were found in a Detroit junk shop and were $4 to $5 each.  Some of them were from the 1700’s, but most from the 1800’s. Besides being beautifully embossed and/or gilded, they’re really wacky. The “Key to Boston Inside Out” on the inside has stories such as Exploits of Billy the Kid, Plotting Against a Priest, The Church Blamed for His Downfall.
I’m not lying.
