We’ve been talking about “trikes” (tricycles) a lot at the store lately. I still think the ones that my sisters and I had as kids were the best ever made. They had red fenders with golden sparkly flames on them and red and white vinyl tassels on the handle bars. The seats were that crazy sparkly red vinyl and most importantly they had a generous back step with treads, for another passenger, to be ridden like a scooter or to be pushed by someone else (hi-jacked).
This, however, is pretty great too.

I feel a little better about hanging my rusty bike on the wall as art now that I’ve seen this. This is better.

I love this photo series, DowntownfromBehind. Get ready, Bridget took my photo last week and it is true - you never forget how to ride a bike - thankfully.

The last time a rode a bike in NYC, was shortly after college and the downtown streets were practically deserted all of the time. It was a rainy night, involved many bicycles, most with a passenger and rider as well as umbrellas, which were being used for jousting. Sound fun? Yes! Safe? Not so much.

Anyway, as for Jeremy, photo’d below. I met him while enjoying his fantastic Bratwurst at a BBQ (at Saturdays, my neighbors). It truly is superior sausage. I’m pretty sure I’ve dreamed about it and finding it in local grocery stores isn’t as easy as Jeremy made it seem. Dean and Deluca let me down, when I was sure I would be the star of a friend’s BBQ. Alas, I failed to procure any, and the substitute from Little Italy wasn’t even in the same ballpark.

Schaller & Weber is the undisputed tri-state king of weisswurst, knackwurst, bockwurst, and plain old weiners. They’re the real deal. The original Schaller & Weber opened in 1937 (the uptown store is…

Oh, Wow! A Fireman’s Bicycle? Well, it must be, it’s red. Maybe this is the answer to some of our urban budget cuts. I can imagine that here in NYC, the fireman might arrive faster by bike, because it would definitely be easier to get through traffic. It would be pretty funny if they put a proper fire truck siren on it. Somehow, I don’t think, “dring, dring…dring, dring!” would clear traffic.

This bike is like a party on wheels. I wish the guys from La Esquina really did make deliveries on it, although it would be pretty hard for me to like La Esquina anymore than I already do.

Just NYC: Seriously, you gotta wonder about the 3rd person who chained their bike to this sign post.
