Just In: Bird Brain and Albino Afro Man Altered Vintage Plates.  These 2 somehow seem like metaphors/caricatures for people I know.
The humorous and slightly twisted portraits combined with traditionally super luxe plates (Oh yeah, some have been Limoge) make them one of my favorite new discoveries. They are limited edition, according to how many of each style plate were available. They look beautiful hanging on the wall, but are also food safe.

I love following Detroit blogs. While this photo is a lot before my time, it tickles me that while I was a kid they had hydro-plane races around Belle Isle. In recent years they’ve actually run the Grand Prix (you know, with race cars) on Belle Isle. Things have sped up a bit since canoes. If ever in Detroit a visit to Belle Isle is well worth it. There is a “Flower House”, as we called it,but really a very Victorian “Conservatory”, an Aquarium (which I heard they may have closed), a Casino and an amazing Fountain. It’s like the Bridezilla of fountains. It has tiers of pools that lead up to it before a plaza around the main fountain. It’s really stunning.

I feel a little better about hanging my rusty bike on the wall as art now that I’ve seen this. This is better.

Is this Helena Bonham-Carter’s mother or doppleganger? The gown looks like it must be Poiret.

I’m not sure what I like most about this photo. The screen in the background is divine. The piece of vintage fabric in the left foreground is titillating to me as a textile whore and the vintage cutlery is just my style. Oh, and the glass of red wine is something I want right now. I only wish I knew who took it.
I just really wish I knew who the photographer was…anybody know, so I can give them well deserved credit?

Father’s Day Gifts? How about going rustic? These are some of our latest vintage finds for the man in your life.
The “fisherman’s catch” painting on wood cracks me up. At the top of the frame are 2 crossed rifles. I can’t help but imagine some guy standing and shooting fish from the beach and calling it “fishing”. It reminds me of fishing with Uncle Ned from South Park.
The wood with inlay frame mirror on the upper right is a “Campaign Mirror”. Its stand can be folded flat for packing, propped up for standing or folded above the mirror for hanging. The versatility of these mirrors was necessary for the travel and clean shave required for the military. We’ve just acquired quite a little collection of these clever mechanical wonders. They range in price from $70 to $195
The lower left Shaving Mirror is not a campaign mirror, but equally cool because it has a brush and shaving creme holder. My Dad, until recently still used a brush with shaving creme. I was sad to see he had given up this part of his morning ritual on a recent visit. Foam shooting out of a can is more expeditious, but way less romantic. I wonder if he gave it up when we all left the nest and he no longer had an audience for his morning pontifications.
The Vintage Trunks are old military trunks and virtually indestructible. They’re probably good for the kind of travel that doesn’t involve streets or sidewalks - real manly, roughin’ it travel, but for most our Dads I’m thinkin’ they would be good for storage - at home, not on the road.  They range in size and price from $120 to $320.

Look! Now we have space for all of the vintage pieces I’ve been collecting and hoarding in my studio. This is one of my favorites. It’s a vintage folding wallpapering table. It folds into a box with a handle for handy dandy carrying from job to job. These days, they are much coveted by flea market and street vendors for their awesome portability.

#DesignTV These are the jewelry moulds hung on the wall. You would never know what they are. The frames are #vintage finds. The dolls are by a local artist.

These vintage ivory eyeliner bottles are some of favorite pieces. I like them paired with these modern bottles which are cast from found bottles in porcelain. Kinda makes them “finds” too.

#NYIGF Find: Vintage school chair recovered in whip-stitched leather! Gorgeous, like an old baseball mitt. Yummy to touch and to sit in. Now you have a new/old chair for your desk, an old typewriter and scissors, no reason not to get to work and have fun at your desk. Wait till you see the tape dispenser that I found.

Just Pretty: This Vintage School Chair was left on a moving van, perhaps because it weighs a ton. Believe it or not, the owner of the van was happy to unload it to me. Score! These are my sassy version of cowboy boots. The books were found in a Detroit junk shop and were $4 to $5 each.  Some of them were from the 1700’s, but most from the 1800’s. Besides being beautifully embossed and/or gilded, they’re really wacky. The “Key to Boston Inside Out” on the inside has stories such as Exploits of Billy the Kid, Plotting Against a Priest, The Church Blamed for His Downfall.
I’m not lying.
